Frequently asked questions about automation, security and networking
The answers below cover what Skies Solutions Innovation Group installs, what it costs, which areas of Gauteng we cover and what happens after handover. If your question is not here, WhatsApp us or call 081 840 9878.
Which areas do you install in?
We work across Gauteng — Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, Pretoria, Surrounding Gauteng. Site visits within our service area are free, and we will tell you honestly if a property falls too far outside it rather than quoting blind.
What does a smart home or security installation cost?
Our connected-home package starts at R 14 900 and covers smart lighting in selected rooms, app control, everyday scenes and a Wi-Fi assessment. A combined security and automation installation — cameras, perimeter detection, intercom, gate control and whole-home Wi-Fi — starts at R 34 900. Commercial, estate and multi-site work is quoted from a site survey with drawings, because the building layout determines the equipment and the labour.
Can you automate a house that is already built?
Yes. Wireless control can be retrofitted into an existing home without opening walls, and much of the work happens in roof spaces and distribution boards. Anything that needs new cable — additional cameras, access points or an intercom — is easier and cheaper during a renovation or before ceilings are closed, but it is rarely a reason to postpone a project.
Will you work with equipment I already own?
Where the existing hardware is reliable, we reuse it. Cameras, gate motors, alarm panels and network cabinets are assessed during the site visit, and anything that cannot integrate cleanly is replaced rather than forced into the system. You get the list of what is kept, what is replaced and why before you commit.
What happens to the system during load-shedding?
Controllers, the network, cameras and the alarm are placed on backup power with runtime sized to the property, so lighting control, recording, remote viewing and connectivity stay online. High-draw appliances such as geysers and ovens are normally left off backup. Inverter and battery capacity is scoped with the installation rather than added afterwards.
What happens after the installation is finished?
You get a walkthrough of every system, the control app configured on your phone and the installation documented. Workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, and support is a phone call or WhatsApp message away — you are dealing with the same team that designed and installed the system.
